during time in office schmidt advanced establishment of foundation care service members negatively impacted side effects of radar signals encountered during service. time in office has seen several landmark events including investigation wartime activities of world war ii german flying ace werner mölders (2007), reorientation of federal republic’s armed forces (since 2010) , resignation of defence minister zu guttenberg in wake of plagiarism scandal (2011). schmidt had defended zu guttenberg against accusations of plagiary. schmidt played instrumental role in establishment , financing of “hardship fund” (härtefall-stiftung). fund, maintained soldiers’ relief association e.v., founded in 2012 express remit of supporting soldiers injured in line of duty. fund provides support above , beyond standard duty of care laws in federal republic, thereby serving additional assistance veterans in need.
