Usage after 1924 Woodlark Building

in 1924, clarke , woodward sold drug business blumauer-frank drug company , wholesale drug business moved out of building, retained ownership of structure. building s upper floors converted leasable office space. other changes made @ time included redesign , relocation of building s main entry point, west park street (now sw 9th avenue) new entrance on alder street, @ building s southeast corner. redesign carried out architect emil schacht , included terracotta arch.


the main retail space continued used drugstore, changing woodard-clarke liggett s in late 1925, until closing in late 1927. glickman s, women s clothing store, occupied space few months in 1928 before going out of business. sherman clay & company, seller of musical instruments , sheet music, moved space in january 1930 location elsewhere in downtown, occupying basement, ground floor , mezzanine levels, under 10-year lease. 1951 1973, building housed finishing school , modeling agency first named maria easterly studio , after 1959 glorea lavonne finishing school. sherman clay remained in building 44 years, until 1974.


the woodlark building listed on national register of historic places (nrhp) in 2014. located adjacent 2 other nrhp-listed buildings, cornelius hotel, east, , stevens building, north, , diagonally across third, galleria building.


since 2000, ground-floor retail tenant had been johnny sole, independent shoe store. closed in october 2016 start of work convert building hotel.
