the palitana temples on mount shatrunjaya, located city of palitana, in bhavnagar district, gujarat, india considered 1 of holiest places jains. jains believes visit group of temples essential once in lifetime achieve nirvana or salvation, hajj muslims.


shikharji or Śrī sammed Śikharjī (श्री सम्मेद शिखरजी), known parasnath hill, located in giridih district in jharkhand, india, major jain pilgrimage destination , 1 of sacred place jains in world. according jain belief, twenty of twenty-four tirthankaras (teachers of jains) attained moksha (nirvana) place. parasnath hill, height of 1,350 metres (4,430 ft)), highest mountain in state of jharkhand. number of tirthankars attained nirvana @ shri sammet shikharji 20. each of them there shrine on hill.


the hill known parasnath, name derived parshva, 23rd tirthankara attained nirvana there. present temple not old, although idol in main temple ancient. sanskrit inscriptions @ foot of images indicate installed in temple in 1678 ad.


archaeologists believe of existing temple edifices on parasnath hill date 1765 ad although place of greater antiquity. present edifices replace older edifices, demolished. jain temples pulled down , re-built.
