in 2003, new tmnt series produced 4kids entertainment began airing on foxbox (later renamed 4kids tv ) programming block. later moved cw4kids block. series co-produced mirage studios, , mirage owned one-third of rights series. mirage s significant stake in creative control resulted in cartoon hews more closely original comics, creating darker , edgier feel 1987 cartoon, still remains lighthearted enough considered appropriate children.


this series lasted until 2009, ending feature-length television movie titled turtles forever, produced in conjunction 25th anniversary of tmnts franchise , featured turtles of 2003 series teaming counterparts 1987 series. 4kidstv.com featured episodes of series, until september 2010, when nickelodeon brought series , air series on nicktoons , nickelodeon during tmnts marathons.
