the court of appeal recognizes appeals of matters brought before relevant tribunals, (du ressort), both civil , penal:

it venue recourse against bar association elections , bar association decisions, decisions of other professional associations (ordres professionnels) of french legal system.
the court of appeal of paris competent hear matters of recourse against decisions of independent administrative authorities (autorité de la concurrence, autorité des marchés financiers, autorité de régulation des communications électroniques et des postes…).
in court of assizes, since 2000 law on presumption of innocence, assize appeal court not second degree court different assize, in département , 9 jurors instead of six.
not matters can appealed , cannot re-judged on appeal, example least important litigation. in case pourvoi en cassation remains possible.
