sited few hundred metres nearest house in herculaneum, villa s front stretched more 250 m along coastline of gulf of naples. surrounded garden closed off porticoes, ample stretch of gardens, vineyards , woods down small harbour.


it has been ascertained height of main floor in antiquity no less 16 metres above sea level, , villa had 4 architectural levels underneath main floor, arranged in terrasses overlooking sea.


the villa s layout faithful to, enlarges upon, architectural scheme of suburban villas in country around pompeii. atrium functioned entrance hall , means of communication various parts of house. entrance opened columned portico on sea side.


the first peristyle had 10 columns on each side , swimming pool in centre. in enclosure found bronze herma of doryphorus, replica of polykleitos athlete, , herma of amazon made apollonios son of archias of athens. large second peristyle reached passing through large tablinum in which, under propylaeum, archaic statue of athena promachos. collection of bronze busts in interior of tablinum. these included head of scipio africanus.

the living , reception quarters grouped around porticoes , terraces, giving occupants ample sunlight , view of countryside , sea. in living quarters, bath installations brought light, , library of rolled , carbonised papyri placed inside wooden capsae, of them on ordinary wooden shelves , around walls , on 2 sides of set of shelves in middle of room.


the grounds included large area of covered , uncovered gardens walks in shade or in warmth of sun. gardens included gallery of busts, hermae , small marble , bronze statues. these laid out between columns amid open part of garden , on edges of large swimming bath.



barker contributed sculpture mercury. however, has been attributed seated hermes.

deep sea mining relatively new mineral retrieval process takes place on ocean floor. ocean mining sites around large areas of polymetallic nodules or active , extinct hydrothermal vents @ 1,400 – 3,700 meters below ocean s surface. vents create sulfide deposits, contain precious metals such silver, gold, copper, manganese, cobalt, , zinc. deposits mined using either hydraulic pumps or bucket systems take ore surface processed. mining operations, deep sea mining raises questions environmental damages surrounding areas because deep sea mining relatively new field, complete consequences of full-scale mining operations unknown. however, experts removal of parts of sea floor result in disturbances benthic layer, increased toxicity of water column, , sediment plumes tailings. removing parts of sea floor disturbs habitat of benthic organisms, possibly, depending on type of mining , location, causing permanent disturbances. aside direct impact of mining area, leakage, spills, , corrosion alter...
