Biography Vladana Likar-Smiljanić

born in belgrade, father dušan, medical doctor, talented in arts, , helped vladana’s love arts develop. became proficient in drawing, painting , sculpture. decided enroll electrical engineering @ belgrade university never quit drawing.

first, drawing cartoons popular students’ magazine “electron”. while working electron , vladana met husband mića. after completed degree, became teaching assistant @ school of electrical engineering of belgrade university , made break in drawing.

vladana gave birth daughter aleksandra in 1970, , found new inspiration in illustrating aleksandra , friends. became illustrator of known magazine youth politikin zabavnik. had been working magazine next twenty 1 years. in 1973, editors of politikin zabavnik recommended vladana illustrate treasury of children s poems jova jovanović zmaj, continues best-seller of times. after illustrated more twenty books children: sparrow rayko, beautiful fables, counting songs, birthday, princess milly, , others. @ same time, teaching , researching @ school of electrical engineering. defended phd thesis in area of optical communications.

when slobodan milošević came power , made unreasonable demands refused support, not allowed enter school building workplace 2 years. started correspondence list of thousand alumni around world (most of whom former students), informing them events of dark times. correspondence published in e-mail has arrived. political engagement reported helsinki committee human rights, , other non-government organizations. when milošević ousted, returned university. in 2001, became director of computing center of school of electrical engineering.
