islamic azad university central tehran branch first branch established under university system known islamic azad university, history can traced foundation of university.

akbar hashemi rafsanjani sought establish private university address challenges posed during years of iranian revolution -such cultural revolution- , meet increasing demands of secondary-school graduates higher education in iran. on sidelines of islamic republican party conference, rafsanjani mooted idea abdollah jasbi, supported , developed plan establish islamic azad university.

on days, university lacked sufficient funds , facilities operate, sorely opening relying on donations made people , government. initial endowment 100,000 rials.

jasbi rented no. 155 building in forsat shirazi st., while nassir shekarriz , mahmoud latifipour – in charge chancellor , vice chancellor respectively – rented 6th floor of building located in enqelab st., felestin st. in order hold entrance exam in 1982. university began islamic azad university of tehran when opened doors 200 students, offering 6 majors in bachelor s degree , 2 in associate degree. after, whole building in enqelab st. purchased mostazafan foundation of islamic revolution , became university s first property. (current faculty of arts , architecture)
