harmandir sahib, or darbar sahib (also known golden temple), culturally important shrine in sikhism, considered spiritual , cultural centre of sikhs. located in amritsar, punjab, india. 1 of oldest sikh gurdwaras. located in city of amritsar, india, established guru ram das, fourth guru of sikhs , city built around shrine, known guru di nagri meaning city of sikh guru. made white marble keep ground cool , pleasant. later laid real gold provided emperor of sikh empire, maharaja ranjit singh.
