the barque lord ashburton built @ brandy cove, st. andrews joshua briggs in 1843. ship s name honoured alexander baring, 1st baron ashburton, 1 of signatories of webster-ashburton treaty. treaty, signed in 1842, had resolved several border issues between united states , british north american colonies, including new brunswick. captain , original owner nehemiah marks. ship registered @ st. andrews in 1843 later sold , registration transferred liverpool.
