pierre bottineau


bottineau founded in 1883 oak creek customs station , overnight stagecoach stop. town name changed bottineau in 1884 in honor of pierre bottineau (c.1814-1895), métis pioneer, hunter, , trapper became successful land speculator.


the town located 1.5 miles north of current location. entire town moved south in 1887 great northern railway installing new tracks.


in 2012 new chalet called annie s house built in bottineau winter park (16 km north of bottineau). facility north dakota s first ski facility handicapped children , wounded veterans. being built honor ann nicole nelson, north dakotan die in september 11 attacks on world trade center in new york city.
