on 29 july 2010, kayal signed four-year deal scottish premier league side celtic , given number 33 shirt.


kayal made debut celtic against fc utrecht on 19 august 2010 , showed full potential getting off best possible start, setting opening goal of game efraín juárez , winning man of match award. in september 2010 suffered setback , out of action 3 months due hernia injury required surgery. made return substitute on 26 december against st johnstone, , restored starting line-up in 2–0 win on rangers @ ibrox on 2 january 2011.


his performances won him spl player of month award january 2011, , praise of celtic manager neil lennon. determination , competitive attitude played key part in side s success in first season in scottish football. on 9 april 2011, kayal captained side in 1–0 win on st mirren. scored first goal celtic in 1–0 spl win on st johnstone on 12 april 2011. first home goal long range effort against dundee united on 1 may 2011. on 4 may, kayal had taken off in second half of spl match against inverness caledonian thistle because of suspected concussion after collision ross tokely. kayal sustained fractured wrist in same incident , subsequently missed rest of 2010–11 season.


kayal captained celtic second time on 10 september 2011, against motherwell in spl, leading team 4–0 victory @ celtic park. made captain while scott brown out ankle injury.


kayal suffered ankle ligament damage against rangers on 28 december 2011 after tackle lee mcculloch , stretchered off 13 minutes play. celtic won match 1–0 sent them top of spl table. injury put kayal out of action on 4 months , returned side in last game of season, 5–0 win on hearts. later, kayal accused mcculloch of deliberately injuring him have not forgotten moment.


in 2012 season, kayal obtained european nationality , played important role team during scottish league.


on 22 october 2013 scored first goal in uefa champions league against afc ajax in 2–1 win.
