jones born in sutton coldfield, , began football career youngster west bromwich albion @ age of 12. member of team won uk finals of nike premier cup in 2009, , took two-year scholarship in 2011. when initial scholarship ended in 2013, given third year. during 2013–14 season helped club s reserve team win birmingham senior cup, , in may 2015 signed first professional contract, of 1 year option of second. jones sustained injury during pre-season friendly kept him out 3 months; scored twice on return under-21 team, , came 2 goals in next 3 matches. nevertheless, club decided not take option on contract – came shock player – , in latter part of season had trials walsall , birmingham city.

jones joined league 1 club port vale on five-month loan deal in august 2016. remained eligible play in non-first team fixtures birmingham city during loan spell. made football league debut @ vale park on 16 august, 84th-minute substitute anton forrester in 1–0 win on rochdale; won penalty within 2 minutes of coming onto field, though jj hooper missed ensuing penalty, , jones had shot blocked last defender after running past goalkeeper josh lillis deep stoppage time. on 27 august, scored twice valiants record 3–1 victory on scunthorpe united despite being played @ wide right of front three. manager bruno ribeiro praised him after match, saying fantastic. scored 2 goals , worked hard. ... 1 more option winger . jones said enjoyed playing out of position @ right-wing port vale ribeiro allowed him free creative role few defensive duties, , admitted hoped extend loan did not suit style of play @ parent club. nominated league 1 player of month award august , september after scoring 6 goals in 8 games. end of loan spell, jones had scored ten goals 21 matches. port vale had hoped convert loan permanent deal, , according club chairman norman smurthwaite, had agreed fee birmingham unable agree terms player s agent.

on 5 january 2017, jones signed league 1 club, bradford city, on two-and-a-half-year deal undisclosed fee. after spending 5 weeks out hip injury, recorded first goal bradford after coming on substitute score winning goal in 2–1 victory on former club port vale @ vale park on 25 february. scored 5 goals in 15 league games bantams in second half of 2016–17 season, , appeared 74th-minute substitute billy clarke in play-off final defeat millwall @ wembley stadium.
