early life
brown born on november 16, 1936, in mesa, arizona. had twin brother. brown graduated mesa high school , received bachelor s degree in accounting arizona state university.
career
brown served on mesa city council 1968 1976. former mesa mayor wayne pomeroy, served mayor during late 1970s, has credited brown planning old hohokam park, beginning in 1976, during brown s last year in office. stadium used training oakland in 1977 , 1978. chicago cubs moved spring training camp scottsdale hohokam park in mesa in 1979.
wayne founded wayne brown & co., mesa-based certified public accounting (cpa) firm. , wife later acquired evans distribution co., fuel distribution company, during 1980s. served company s ceo.

brown served mayor of mesa 2 consecutive, two-year terms 1996 2000. supporter of historic preservation , conservation of sonoran desert urban sprawl. persuaded former mayor wayne pomeroy return city council fill vacancy of departing councilman.
during tenure mayor, brown championed movement construct mesa arts center in downtown mesa. under brown, city passed quality-of-life bond issue, approved voters in 1998, pay center. though left office in 2000, brown , wife, kathye, continued private fundraising campaign arts center. couple hoped raise $3.5 million, raised more $4.5 million private sector. mesa arts center opened in 2005, 5 years after brown left office. center s brown sculpture courtyard named in honor.
brown described time mayor more stressful had anticipated. suffered health scare while in office. in interview after leaving city government, brown states burned myself out quicker thought...if had again, have slowed down.
wayne brown died following long series of strokes on may 14, 2013, @ age of 76. survived wife, kathye; mother, elva; 3 children - elizabeth, kent , marty; thirteen grandchildren; twin brother , younger brother.
