raf benson s mission statement deliver support helicopter operational capability. fulfil mission, station home 2 squadrons of puma hc2 support helicopters under control of tri-service joint helicopter command. puma medium-lift helicopter used tactical troop , load movements across battlefield. aircraft can carry 16 passengers or 12 equipped troops, or 2 tonnes of freight carried either internally or under-slung load. no. 28 squadron combined puma , boeing chinook hc4 operational conversion unit trains crews both aircraft types. flying operations supported units such rotary wing operational evaluation , training unit , medium support helicopter aircrew training facility operates variety of simulators.


raf benson home grob tutor light aircraft of oxford university air squadron. station has own flying club, consists of service , civilian personnel. national police air service have unit based @ benson alongside thames valley air ambulance moved white waltham airfield in january 2007. both services operate eurocopter ec135.


the airfield well-known frost hollow, recording coldest temperatures in uk. in 2009 met office @ raf benson recorded temperature of −11.8, , on 7 january 2010, −17.1 °c.

deep sea mining relatively new mineral retrieval process takes place on ocean floor. ocean mining sites around large areas of polymetallic nodules or active , extinct hydrothermal vents @ 1,400 – 3,700 meters below ocean s surface. vents create sulfide deposits, contain precious metals such silver, gold, copper, manganese, cobalt, , zinc. deposits mined using either hydraulic pumps or bucket systems take ore surface processed. mining operations, deep sea mining raises questions environmental damages surrounding areas because deep sea mining relatively new field, complete consequences of full-scale mining operations unknown. however, experts removal of parts of sea floor result in disturbances benthic layer, increased toxicity of water column, , sediment plumes tailings. removing parts of sea floor disturbs habitat of benthic organisms, possibly, depending on type of mining , location, causing permanent disturbances. aside direct impact of mining area, leakage, spills, , corrosion alter...
