the empire service has been long-standing candidate high-speed rail , electrification. need high-speed rail service has been addressed former governor george pataki, former senate majority leader joseph bruno, , members of new york state assembly represent upstate regions. other politicians have asked high-speed rail introduced along empire corridor, diminishing time new york city – buffalo trains 7 hours 3 hours; train travel new york city albany take less 2 hours complete. may introduce acela trains empire corridor if high-speed rail successful. reason, politicians have noted, high-speed trains might improve upstate new york s economy, had become stagnant.


currently, trains attain maximum speed of 110 mph (177 km/h) on stretch of track south , west albany. areas east of schenectady see speeds above 79 mph (127 km/h).
