the m16 commonly manufactured 5.56×45mm rifle in world. currently, m16 in use 15 nato countries , more 80 countries worldwide. together, numerous companies in united states, canada, , china have produced more 8,000,000 rifles of variants. approximately 90% still in operation. m16 replaced both m14 rifle , m2 carbine standard infantry rifle of united states armed forces. although, m14 continues see limited service, in sniper, designated marksman, , ceremonial roles.
