an demonstration on yonge street on june 24 demanding respect of first nations treaty rights


a small rally conducted on june 17 in financial district oxfam canada, urging canada end fossil fuel subsidization , take action on world poverty. rally spoofed summit s high security cost.


an anti-poverty protest occurred on june 21, causing traffic congestion. 100 protesters marched allan gardens on sherbourne street , continued on yonge street, dundas street, , isabella street. police officers on bicycles , military helicopters patrolled protest; 1 arrest made. few protesters attempted occupy esso gas station, claiming corporations esso have caused irreparable damage on world. other protester concerns arab–israeli conflict, capitalism, , g8 , g20 summits. protest led guelph-based group called sense of security, anti-poverty group supported ontario coalition against poverty.


the following day, 200 people toronto s gay community marched through downtown attempting raise awareness on homosexual rights. protesters chanted, re queer, re fabulous, re against g20. canadian broadcasting corporation (cbc) labelled protests peaceful overall.


the first sizable g20 protest, of 1000 people, took place on june 24 first nations groups , supporters across canada demanding respect treaty rights government. demonstrations moved queen s park toronto eaton centre along university avenue , queen street west. concerns of protesters canada s failure sign united nations declaration on rights of indigenous peoples , fact no aboriginal chiefs invited summits.


also on june 24, activist jaggi singh, spokesperson group no 1 illegal, suggested in news conference protesters intended attempt breach security fence in coming days.


a larger protest scheduled june 25 in toronto, day 36th g8 summit began in huntsville, ontario. protesters attempted enter security zone, later forced return police officers. evening, protesters set tent city @ allan gardens , stayed overnight resume protests following day, opening of g20 summit.
