the adoption rate of internet explorer seems closely related of microsoft windows, default web browser comes windows. since integration of internet explorer 2.0 windows 95 osr 1 in 1996, , after version 4.0 s release in 1997, adoption accelerated: below 20% in 1996, 40% in 1998, , on 80% in 2000. made microsoft winner in infamous first browser war against netscape. netscape navigator dominant browser during 1995 , until 1997, rapidly lost share ie starting in 1998, , slipped behind in 1999. integration of ie windows led lawsuit aol, netscape s owner, accusing microsoft of unfair competition. infamous case won aol late, internet explorer had become dominant browser.
