lotus shoes (蓮履 / 莲履, lianlǚ) footwear worn women in china had bound feet. shoes cone or sheath-shaped, intended resemble lotus bud. delicately constructed cotton or silk, , small enough fit in palm of hand. designs had heels or wedge-shaped soles. made in different styles , colors, , typically ornately decorated, embroidered designs of animals or flowers continue on sole of shoe. designs fit on tip of foot, giving illusion of small bound foot when worn under long skirt.


though foot binding no longer practised, many lotus shoes survive artifacts in museums or private collections.
