the station signed-on march 8, 1991 ktmw , aired analog signal on vhf channel 9. locally owned william schuyler , affiliated home shopping network (hsn). call sign change khdt-tv on april 13, 1992. schuyler later sold station subsidiary of lambert broadcasting, llc. on january 16, 1995, became charter upn affiliate, carrying wb programming on secondary basis.


the call letters became knin-tv on august 30, 1996 and, during first 5 years calls, station known boise s no news network , had mascot news anchor named rot weiller . call letters pronounced canine , latin term dog. phased out news anchor mascot in 2002.


in late 1998, station dropped wb programming, network decided air on cable outside top 100 markets. through national service wb 100+, kwob replaced knin boise s affiliate, , cleared entire wb schedule. knin sold banks broadcasting (50% of company owned lin tv corporation of providence, rhode island).


on september 18, 2006, knin became affiliate of cw (the merger of upn , wb), carrying on main channel in place of upn. new second digital subchannel signed-on offering cw plus (a similar operation wb 100+) replacement kwob . former cable-exclusive station dropped faux calls in favor of knin-dt2. on july 1, 2008, banks broadcasting announced had agreed sell knin journal communications (owner of kivi), creating boise s first television duopoly.


the federal communications commission (fcc) rejected application on november 10; shortly afterward, banks broadcasting filed appeal, , on january 16, 2009 fcc reversed decision, allowing deal go through. purchase closed on april 24, @ point knin vacated longtime studios on west bannock street in downtown boise , integrated kivi s facilities in nampa. on september 1, 2011, knin assumed fox affiliation ktrv-tv (channel 12), upon expiration of cw affiliation agreements.


on september 12, cw plus programming moved kyuu-lp , subchannel of kboi-tv. last cw program air on knin america s next top model. knin s first fox program repeat of bones. besides television station sharing same call sign knin-fm 92.9 in wichita falls, texas, there no relation between two. knin-dt2 carried live network, added heroes & icons on may 20, 2015.


on july 30, 2014, announced e. w. scripps company acquire journal communications in all-stock transaction. combined firm retain broadcast properties , spin off print assets journal media group. originally, knin-tv, kivi-tv , 5 radio stations, not included in merger; in september, journal filed transfer these stations journal/scripps divestiture trust (with kiel media group trustee). merge completed on april 1, 2015 , kiel media group assumed operations of license, scripps retained kivi , other 5 radio stations. on may 7, 2015, raycom media agreed purchase knin-tv $14.5 million; scripps enter shared services agreement allow kivi continue provide services knin. arrangement similar 1 2 companies have in west palm beach, florida, raycom s fox affiliate wflx operated through ssa scripps nbc affiliate wptv. sale completed on october 1, 2015.
