season summary
the 1942–43 season began on saturday 5 september 1942.
as last season, there still 3 lancashire clubs have not had close down , withdraw league, northern rugby league continued single (now) 14 club single competition. clubs still playing different number of marches, league positions , title decided on percentage basis...
at completion of regular season wigan on top of league 26 points 16 games , percentage success of 81.25% , dewsbury close second (25 points 16 games @ 78.13%).
although bradford northern finished points (27 points 19 games) percentage success 71.05%, , consequently finished third.
st helens finished 14th out of 14 clubs 2 wins 15 , 4 points.
dewsbury went on defeat halifax 33-16 on aggregate in play-off final. , win championship (for second consecutive season).
however championship declared null , void winners dewsbury fielded ineligible player in championship final.
the wartime emergency leagues did not count official league championship.
in rugby league challenge cup final, dewsbury beat leeds 16-15 on aggregate on 2 legs in front of aggregate crowd of 26,470.
the lancashire county cup, suspended season 1940–41 remained rest of war , again wigan competed in yorkshire cup.
dewsbury beat huddersfield 7-2 on aggregate before aggregate crowd of 17,252 in 2 low scoring legs of final of yorkshire county cup,

hull kingston rovers – withdrew after end of first (1939–40) season finished , did not rejoin until 1945–46 season.

widnes – hull kingston rovers.
broughton rangers – withdrew after end of second 1940–41 season finished , did not rejoin until 1945–46 season.
liverpool stanley – broughton rangers.
salford – broughton rangers. in november 1942, manager lance todd killed in car crash.
swinton – broughton rangers.
warrington – broughton rangers.
leigh - during second world war, club forced leave ground adjacent cable factory extended onto land. townsfolk of leigh, acting on chairman james hilton s inspiration, cleared fields on edge of town, , built new stadium, including moving , rebuilding old grandstand original ground. -
in 1941–42, leigh quit wartime lancashire league , not return league until 1946–47 when played temporary measure @ athletic ground, holden road before moving kirkhall lane (which later officially renamed hilton park after james hilton).

dewsbury had relatively successful time during war years. managed eddie waring, , side boosted inclusion of number of big-name guest players, club won wartime emergency league in 1941–42 , again following season 1942–43 (though championship declared null , void when discovered had played ineligible player). runners-up in championship in 1943–44, challenge cup winners in 1943 , yorkshire cup final appearances in season 1940–41 , winners in 1942–43.
