after university, moffatt went on tour singer marc déry. led invitation in 2001 singer-songwriter daniel bélanger join band keyboardist , vocalist in support of well-received album rêver mieux. debut solo album aquanaute released in 2002 on audiogram label in canada , on emi/virgin label in europe in 2005.


in 2004, moffatt met french rock musician matthieu chedid @ montreal s francofolies music , performance festival. subsequently remixed chedid s la bonne Étoile (from 2003 album qui de nous deux) virtual duet. version of popular song received wide airplay in france , helped introduce french music fans. track scheduled included on future re-release of aquanaute.


in 2005, moffatt released first music dvd, ariane moffatt à la station c, received 2006 juno award nomination music dvd of year. second album, le cœur dans la tête (meaning heart in head) released later year.


moffatt opened french musician alain souchon @ olympia (a montreal theatre , concert venue) in 2006.


moffatt collaborated franco-israeli singer-songwriter yael naim on 2008 release tous les sens (meaning senses), awarded francophone album of year @ 2009 juno awards. contributed vocals song sweet light on tales city, second album montreal alternative band mobile.


in 2010, moffatt contributed twelve tracks (all covers of english-language songs) popular radio-canada medical show trauma, subsequently released soundtrack album. songs included hurts r.e.m., leonard cohen s in secret life , hallelujah , , martha wainwright s far away . montreal s hour alternative newsweekly declared moffatt owns these songs hard have wonder if ever able pry them away . soundtrack went on reach gold status in canada. same year nominated best breakthrough live act of year @ france s victoires de la musique awards.


moffatt s fourth album, ma (the title references both japanese concept of negative space , moffatt s initials) released in 2012. marked first time singer has composed songs in english. in interview hour moffatt explained effort had been inspired surrounds: studio in mile end, live nearby well, neighbourhood bilingual , music scene i’m attracted to, palpable around here, told hour. looking space compose, somewhere inspiring , luminous. on kind of sabbatical, exploring , playing around, no deadline make album. composing , recording here in little bubble, myself. ended bunch of songs, half of them in english, half in french.
