artemia monica, variety commonly known mono lake brine shrimp, can found in mono lake, mono county, california. in 1987, dennis d. murphy stanford university petitioned united states fish , wildlife service add a. monica endangered species list under endangered species act (1973). diversion of water los angeles department of water , power resulted in rising salinity , concentration of sodium hydroxide in mono lake. despite presence of trillions of brine shrimp in lake, petition contended increase in ph endanger them.


the threat lake s water levels addressed revision california state water resources control board s policy, , fish , wildlife service found on 7 september 1995 mono lake brine shrimp did not warrant listing.
