alloa tower


despite extensive alterations both externally , internally, tower retains original medieval wooden roof , battlements, internal features. 1 of largest , earliest of scottish tower houses.


the town formerly contained large number of 17th , 18th century buildings, cleared away slums in 18th 19th century. however, alloa retain historic architecture in form of alloa tower, tobias bauchop s house (1695), inglewood house, gean house , greenfield house. 19th century street plan of alloa exists.


alloa town hall , library designed architect alfred waterhouse , built in 1886-9 @ cost of £18,008.
