the east pacific s tropical depression eleven-e moved across mexico , degenerated remnant low on september 4. low , mid-level circulations survived crossing mexico , entered southern bay of campeche, reforming tropical depression 18:00 utc on september 5. steered north north-northwest, cyclone strengthened deep convection fired on center; intensified tropical storm hermine 06:00 utc on september 6 , attained peak winds of 70 mph (110 km/h) 02:00 utc following day made landfall near matamoros, mexico. despite being inland, hermine continued maintain inner core , weakened. fell tropical depression status on central texas 00:00 utc on september 8 , dissipated on southeastern kansas 06:00 utc on september 10.


tropical storm-force winds affected coastal sections of northern mexico; matamoros recorded peak sustained winds of 53 mph (85 km/h) gusts 67 mph (108 km/h). dozens of structures damaged, trees , power lines downed, , many residents left without power. impact more significant across united states—most notably in texas—where 283 homes sustained minor damage, 231 homes sustained major damage, , 68 homes destroyed. torrential rainfall, peaking @ 16.37 in (415.8 mm) in georgetown, forced more 100 high water rescues. in oklahoma, flash flooding resulted in severe infrastructure damage. several tornadoes touched down in both states. 7 people killed in texas , 1 in oklahoma, while total damage total reached $240 million.
