during 2017 presidential campaign stop in niš, popović called reducing value-added tax rates on domestic production in underdeveloped parts of serbia. called progressive tax regarding higher incomes, unlike typical progressive tax model, popović told campaign audience in sremska mitrovica poorest should not pay taxes @ all.


without mentioning name, popović said minister of finance dušan vujović excellent professional , criticized him on deadlines given serbian mps on assessing budget proposals. popović claimed such deadlines meant satisfy conveniences of imf opposed interests of serbia.

popović long-time eurosceptic. in interview večernje novosti on january 24, 2017, popović stated against brussels agreement. suggested termination of brussels agreement should not mean end diplomatic relations european union, serbia in case should still abstain eu membership. during visit in smederevo during presidential campaign, popović told press european union try prevent chinese investments serbian metallurgical industry.
