at road enters surrey, meets b2230 again @ roundabout south of belmont before entering notorious mad mile section (brighton road). speed limit changes 40 60 mph (96 km/h) , returns 40 mph @ banstead crossroads junction a2022. in area road passes banstead downs, , golf course. after passing banstead crossroads, acts boundary between nork , banstead heads towards burgh heath, passing junctions garratts lane (b2219) , tattenham way (b2221) before reaching a240 (reigate road) @ centre of burgh heath. passes near large suburban villages of tadworth , kingswood, passing several b-roads, including b2032. travells beside banstead heath (still brighton road) before reaching small settlement of lower kingswood. after passing roundabout near kingswood manor, road arrives @ reigate hill interchange, junction 8 of m25.

at point, a217 becomes non-primary a-road. named reigate hill, in steep section of north downs. area become more urban @ bottom of hill, on northern outskirts of town of reigate. passes through level crossing next reigate station. runs concurrently a25 through main one-way system of reigate town centre. carries on through localities of woodhatch , doversgreen before going rural area. travels on river mole in small hamlet of sidlow. after period of farms, road passes village of hookwood, taking left turn @ roundabout. continuing past povey cross, road reaches longbridge roundabout on border west sussex.
