early life , education

huang xianfan born on 13 november 1899 qujiu town of fusui county, guangxi province, china. original name gan jinying, later renamed huang xianfan. family of zhuang nationality. huang s father, gan xinchang, farmer, background in classics allowed him introduce huang various works when huang 6 years old. according autobiography, intellectual gifts recognized child uncle. therefore, age sent family study confucian classics, 3 character classic , thousand character classic. huang described father stern disciplinarian. huang s father sent 9-year-old huang qusi mengguan（chinese old schools）, learning value systems of confucianism, 4 books , 5 classics, in order pass yuanshi（imperial examination exams of county , district level, similar current chinese civil service exams）. however, teenager dissatisfied scholastic system of time, emphasis on preparing eight-legged exams, artificial literary exercises done during examinations. huang later admitted didn t enjoy classical chinese texts preached confucian morals, favouring instead history books such records of grand historian. age 14, huang xianfan educated @ qusi primary school. @ 18, huang moved higher primary school in nearby quli, bullied peasant background.

in 1922, entered guangxi third normal college. in 1926, entered beijing normal university , taught famous tutor chen yuan , qian xuantong. there on 9 years had completed diploma, bachelor , postgraduate courses, writing series of academic papers , books in classical chinese on ancient history, chinese society, politics, economy, culture, religion , folk custom, translating history of various countries chinese. during university study, huang still taught language , history @ beijing private high school. students, set beilei xueshe (蓓蕾學社), academic group , press in 1932, publishing academic books.

in 1935, went japan , studied @ tokyo imperial university , taught famous japanese historian tutors, tianqing , jia tengfan.

career

in november 1937 returned china teach history professor in guangxi, sun yat-sen university in guilin , guangxi normal university,and devoted himself study of chinese anthropology , folklore. first university professor of zhuang nationality in china , first university professor of chongzuo city. during academic career, assigned researcher in guangxi educational institute, dean of chinese department, , curator in guangxi university. worked director of library in guangxi normal university.

when people s republic of china founded in 1949, professor huang xianfan elected director of chinese people s association friendship foreign countries in first congress. representative guangxi cultural , educational circles. after 1954, elected representative of first national people s congress,a committeeman of ethnic affairs committee of npc, , committeeman of international culture liaison committee of cpc. meanwhile, had been elected committeeman of people s government of guixi zhuang nationnality autonomous region , committeeman of council of guangxi province.

during “hundred flowers campaign”thaw of 1956–57, opposed communist party s education policy. climate changed “anti-rightist movement. ”in 1957, huang stood head bowed before countless assemblies confess “crimes toward people. ”hundreds of articles attacked him, not few colleagues, viciously dishonest. on 1 february 1958, resolution made in fifth session of first national people s congress, mr.fei xiaotong, huang xianfan , ou bai chuan removed memberships of ethnic committee of npc. wrongly classified historians 5 rightist (huang xianfan, xiang da, lei haizong, wang zhongmin, chen mengjia) no. big rightists, , became biggest rightist in chinese history circles. after outbreak of cultural revolution, tortured abuse, physically attacked red guards, forced clean toilets. huang became outcast, humiliated, isolated, academic research unable publish.

in 1979, chinese government has corrected wrong identities of so-called bourgeois rightists. professor huang xianfan posted counselor of chinese ethnic association, ethnic editor encyclopedia of china (zhōngguó dà bǎikē quánshū), counselor of institute studies on chinese southwest minorities, , vice-chairman of institute studies on chinese baiyue ethnic history. later on elected committee member of fifth congress of ccppcc, , during period, had assisted chinese government lot of corrections wrong political cases.

during lifetime, professor huang xianfan had worked in many universities , taught lot of students. in later years, had founded li jiang sparetime college, , worked head of college. in november 1999, guangxi normal university had held grand forum on professor huang xianfan’s hundred years birthday. after forum, university edited , published 2 books——the thesis on memory of professor huang xianfan s hundred years birthday , introduction on chinese ancient books—written professor huang xianfan. guangxi normal university , guilin high school have established scholarships in memory of professor huang xianfan.

family

huang had 2 wives: lanmei , liu lihua. brought eleven children huang; of them became successful individuals through huang s strict , effective education. 2 of them professor @ chinese universities, including huang xiaoling, prominent professor of medicine of guangxi.
