st. cyril s church
st. cyril s church (ukrainian: Кирилівська церква, translit. kyrylivs’ka tserkva) rectangular-shaped structure 3 apses jutting out on eastern side. church s dome , vaults rest upon 6 cruciform piers. staircase built north wall leads gallery in western section. on side there chapel - rare feature of ancient kievan rus churches. baptistery , niches of narthex other uncommon features. originally, each of vaults roofed plates of sheet steel.
throughout centuries, church suffered more once devastating enemy raids , devastating fire in 1734. church restored , reconstructed many times, altering original appearance. st. cyril s church located within contemporary limits of kiev, church medieval church structure survived until 20th century without major additions. current exterior of church shaped during restoration works carried out during 1750–1760, ukrainian architect ivan hryhorovych-barskyi. although containing elements of ukrainian baroque on exterior, interior remains largely unchanged original style.
belfry
of monastic buildings ivan hryhorovych-barskyi constructed within monastery, important construction free standing belfry, built in 1760. belfry combined idea of tall campanile gate on ground level , chapel on belfry s second tier. 2 lower levels of belfry had elements of ukrainian tripartite church, consisting belltower placed on central part of nave. architectural combination in belfry 2 apse-like lower elements on each side. original roof above belfry s chapel stepped-hipped roof, popular @ time. after fire of 1849, roof s on chapel , cupola modified original. after ukrainian ssr s decision on demolition of belfry in 1936, belfry destroyed year later, used bricks in construction projects.
