paterson married fourth wife, sarah, , has 6 children.


philanthropic efforts , contributions

over years, paterson has made number of community philanthropic contributions. in 1997, paterson co-founded merry go round children s foundation, located in toronto. merry go round children s foundation responsible organizing kids, cops & computers program, helps provide financially disadvantaged children in toronto area access technology, laptops , basic internet connection. besides co-founding merry go round children s foundation, paterson serves foundation s chairman. paterson has donated on $600,000 foundation.

as student, paterson received bursaries @ ridley college , university of western ontario. paterson has served on decade member of board of governors of ridley college. in 2004, paterson gave $1 million donation university of western ontario alma mater open g. scott paterson wing in school s medical sciences building. @ public announcement of donation, paterson described impetus gift school in way, ideas may start here lead discoveries extend or perhaps save lives ... s great part of that.

paterson has enjoyed number of awards , recognitions on years. in 1998, paterson recipient of canada s top 40 under 40 award , presented ... exceptional canadians under age of 40 outstanding leaders in chosen fields , shaping our country s future . year later, in 1999, paterson recognized , profiled time magazine 1 of canada s 21st century leaders .


in 2000, paterson received recognition alma mater, university of western ontario, being presented “purple & white award“, given toronto-based alumni of school ... committed , involved in university life while making significant contribution toronto area. speaking honor given paterson, dr. paul davenport, @ time, president of university of western ontario, had say: scott s strong commitment university , success canadian business leader entire western community can proud of.

deep sea mining relatively new mineral retrieval process takes place on ocean floor. ocean mining sites around large areas of polymetallic nodules or active , extinct hydrothermal vents @ 1,400 – 3,700 meters below ocean s surface. vents create sulfide deposits, contain precious metals such silver, gold, copper, manganese, cobalt, , zinc. deposits mined using either hydraulic pumps or bucket systems take ore surface processed. mining operations, deep sea mining raises questions environmental damages surrounding areas because deep sea mining relatively new field, complete consequences of full-scale mining operations unknown. however, experts removal of parts of sea floor result in disturbances benthic layer, increased toxicity of water column, , sediment plumes tailings. removing parts of sea floor disturbs habitat of benthic organisms, possibly, depending on type of mining , location, causing permanent disturbances. aside direct impact of mining area, leakage, spills, , corrosion alter...
