the idea of annual day celebrating australian national flag dates 1984. in year new south wales branch of australian national flag association (anfa) arranged 3 september observed australian national flag day @ public ceremony held in hyde park, sydney. recognition , popularity of flag day continued grow each passing year , in 1989 governor of new south wales, sir david martin, delivered flag day address @ tumbalong park, sydney in said, come here proudly australian, come here out of respect flag proudly australian .


on flag day 1996 official ceremony took place in martin place amphitheatre in centre of sydney. on occasion david jull, minister administrative services, read message prime minister, john howard. presented anfa copy of proclamation sir william deane.


ceremonies held annually in schools, major centres, , governor-general, governors , politicians attend or release statements media.
