before mexican settlers arrived, utes occupied significant portions of today eastern utah, western colorado, including san luis valley, , parts of new mexico , wyoming. utes never unified group within historic times; instead, consisted of numerous nomadic bands maintained close associations other neighboring groups. of largest known groups capote, moache, moanumts, parianuche, taviwach, weeminuche, , yamperika. uintah or uinta, uncompahgre tribe , white river utes.
