History Ipswich and Rosewood railway line



main line

the main line railway ipswich brisbane opened in 1876, part of extension of first railway line ipswich bigge s camp (now grandchester) on 31 july 1865.


originally built single track, section duplicated 1885–87, indicating how traffic volume grew on line. interestingly, albert bridge built accommodate 2 tracks in 1876, though 1 laid @ time.


the line west of ipswich duplicated wulkuraka in 1902 , grandchester (past rosewood) in 1913.


the section roma street corinda (11 km) quadruplicated in 1963, , extended darra (a further 5 km) in 2011, became junction first section of new springfield line @ time.


the roma street–darra section first section electrified in 1979, section ipswich electrified in 1980.


the line electrified ipswich rosewood in 1993 while minister transport local member.


branch lines

the brisbane valley railway line, branching main line after wulkuraka railway station, opened lowood in 1884, esk in 1886, , yarraman in 1913. passenger services operated toogoolawah until 1989, , freight services until closure of line in sections in 1988 , 1993.


a line marburg opened in 1912, branching main line 380 m (1,250 ft) east of rosewood railway station. closed in sections 1964 1995, , of today rosewood railway museum; museum junction station @ truncated southern end of line before railway street.


a line coal loading balloon loop @ ebenezer opened in 1990, junctioning main line west of thagoona railway station.


the initial section of springfield railway line darra richlands opened 1 week in january 2011 assist transportation when main line between darra , ipswich closed due severe flooding. richlands–springfield section opened in 2013.


a new branch line has been proposed on alignment extending south ipswich yamanto, east ripley, , connecting springfield line.
