season 8 of american ninja warrior began on june 1, 2016, on nbc, encore episodes airing following day on esquire network. regional competitions held in los angeles, atlanta, indianapolis, oklahoma city, , philadelphia, 28 new obstacles. on 40 percent more women registered season 8 compared previous season. additionally, prize money possible stage 4 winners split equally among competitors complete rope climb in under 30 seconds.


in philadelphia s city finals, no competitors completed finals course, first in american ninja warrior history. in stage 1 of national finals, many veterans of show such geoff britten , brent steffensen eliminated early, while jessie graff became first woman complete stage 1, placing fifth. tyler yamauchi became shortest person ever complete jumping spider obstacle @ 5 1 . 17 competitors completed stage 1, lowest in anw history. on stage 2, athletes eliminated except drew drechsel , daniel gil. during stage 3, both drechsel , gil not complete course. gil fell on ultimate cliffhanger, while drechsel went farthest, fell on hang climb. contrary season 7 s multiple winners, no season 8 competitor able complete stage 3.
