a tropical wave emerged off western coast of africa on june 24, emerging gulf of mexico on july 7. area of low pressure became discernible, , data reconnaissance aircraft, system upgraded tropical depression 00:00 utc on july 8. depression failed organize appreciably tracked west west-northwest, moving ashore south padre island, texas winds of 35 mph (55 km/h) 14:00 utc day. depression degenerated remnant low 06:00 utc on july 9 , dissipated on northern mexico day later.


in advance of landfall, nhc issued tropical storm warning baffin bay, texas rio san fernando, mexico; canceled once storm failed intensify. servicio meteorológico nacional warned residents of gusty winds , heavy rainfall in excess of 4–8 in (100–200 mm) capable of producing localized flooding , mudslides. upon moving ashore, depression produced storm surge of 2–4 ft (0.6–1.2 m) along southern coastline of texas. rainfall accumulations peaked @ 5.16 in (131 mm) along guadalupe river, lesser amounts elsewhere, including across areas affected hurricane alex week prior.
