the highest land point of clayton brook estate found in playing fields between woodfield, croft meadow , carr barn brow previous summit site of defunct walton summit stretch of lancaster canal. canal summit once linked preston terminus of said canal via lancaster canal tramroad. demise of stretch brought on onset of m61 runs alongside clayton brook @ eastern edge.
reminders of area s navigable past remain however, nearby tramway lane linking estate junction 2 of m65 , 9 of m61. bridge 10 of canal stretch remains, albeit ruined , amongst overgrowth, ran behind woodfield skate board hill now, tramway terminus @ top near carr barn brow stand briary court, in nearby farmland across motorway summit.

clayton brook built in late 1970s , 1980s central lancashire new town development corporation, developed walton summit industrial estate nearby. affected recession in late 1980s 1990s.
