the project designed part of rehabilitation of historic district of milan between via de castillia , confalonieri. consists of 2 residential towers of largest 26 floors , 110 meters high (called torre e) , smaller tower 18 floors , 76 meters high (called torre d). contains 400 condominium units priced 3,000–12,000 euro per square metre
it called bosco verticale because each tower houses trees between 3 , 6 meters mitigate smog , produce oxygen. used moderate temperatures in building in winter , summer. plants attenuate noise. design tested in wind tunnel ensure trees not topple gusts of wind. botanists , horticulturalists consulted engineering team ensure structure bear load imposed plants. steel-reinforced concrete balconies designed 28 cm thick, 1.30 metre parapets.
