Route description New York State Route 319

ny 319 began @ intersection 3 county routes (cr 4, cr 10, , cr 19) in hamlet of preston, small community in northern portion of town of same name. highway proceeded eastward, climbing side of hill approximately 1,560 feet (480 m) above sea level @ peak. ny 319 briefly descended cross creek continued climbing, reaching elevation of 1,760 feet (540 m) near packer–mason cemetery. route descended in elevation cemetery, crossing gilmore brook on way town of norwich, intersected cr 19 second time east of town line. past cr 19, highway turned southeastward descend side of ridge overlooking city of norwich.

at bottom of descent, route turned eastward , crossed on canasawacta creek, tributary of chenango river, entered city of norwich , became known west main street. in norwich, ny 319 served emmanuel episcopal church , passed through chenango county courthouse district, established in 1975 in city s downtown area. in center of historic district, ny 319 reached eastern terminus @ intersection ny 12 (broad street). west main street becomes east main street @ junction, , latter continues eastward ny 990l, 1 of new york s reference routes.
