the first ship of class, reşadiye, ordered on 8 june 1911. work stopped in 1912 following start of first balkan war due probability ottoman government run out of funds. work resumed in may 1913 following conclusion of conflict. second ship, fatih sultan mehmed, ordered on 29 april 1914 in response greek order vasilefs konstantinos in 1914. british government ordered work stop in late july 1914, result of growing tensions culminated in outbreak of world war on 28th; material had been assembled dismantled on slipway in august.
there confusion on number , name of ships part of reşadiye class. sources report reşadiye , mehmed reşad v having been different ships; these in fact same vessel, ordered under latter name. similarly, fatih sultan mehmed listed fatik or fatih. ship, reshad-i hammiss, reported have been ordered in 1911 , cancelled in 1912, though according bernd langensiepen , ahmet güleryüz in authoritative ottoman steam navy, ottomans had ordered 1 vessel.
