in 2008 morrison topped result year before @ world single distance championships in nagano, japan. took bronze medal in 1000 meters, won 1500 m , took home gold medal. week later, @ ing finale @ olympic oval in calgary, set new world record in 1500 meters in time of 1:42.01, beating old record held both shani davis , erben wennemars.

he competed @ 2010 winter olympics in vancouver went in strong medal favourite in 3 of competitive events. despite competing on home ice morrison unable win individual medal, best finish ninth in 1500 m. did find medal podium though when won gold medal in team pursuit along lucas makowsky , mathieu giroux. after olympics, morrison considered retirement time away summer training. re-joined world cup circuit , finished season winning silver @ 2011 wsd championships, team pursuit team. re-motivated 2012, finished season winning second world championship title, again in 1500 m. morrison s 2013 season off great start initial win @ first world cup in heerenveen, netherlands, , finished fall world cup circuit leading 1000 m points total far. morrison injured himself while training in fernie, british columbia, breaking tibia. @ time leader of 2012–13 isu speed skating world cup.

2014 winter olympics

having come injury, morrison qualified men s 1500 m , national trials sochi olympics. in 1000 m disaster struck when fell meaning unable qualify 1 of best events. though morrison had 2 team pursuit medals name, had yet achieve individual medal, medal felt missing collection. gilmore junio, fellow athlete, relinquished spot in order morrison skate event @ olympics days before event take place. @ 2014 winter olympics morrison won silver in 1000 m trailing eventual winner stefan groothuis 4/100ths of second. after race morrison made sure first thank junio have thank teammate gilmore junio because without him none of have been possible. later added, props entire support team, , not teammates – gilmore, huge move, – therapists, coaches, team leader, had part in medal , m happy share entire team.

following silver medal performance, morrison competed in scheduled 1500 m event. skating in 15th pair of twenty took on lead until later pairings of poland s zbigniew bródka took on lead. bródka end in photo finish tie koen verweij push morrison third , bronze medal position. gave morrison fourth ever olympic medal, equaling gaétan boucher medals canadian male long track speed skater.

the 2015 world single distance speed skating championships meant more success morrison won 2 silver medals, individual in 1,500 m , second in team pursuit ted-jan bloemen , jordan belchos. morrison said of team s silver “with (bloemen) coming on summer, new team, , struggled on season. had communicate, find out our flaws were, correct our flaws, , had better results... , today, came together. beginning us, on road 2018 olympics.”.

morrison suffered fractured femur in motorcycle accident in may 2015 leaving him steel rod permanently implanted in leg , unable recall or how had gotten there. eleven months after accident morrison again befell misfortune when announced in late april 2016 had suffered stroke in utah during 25-day bicycle ride arizona utah.
