the president of united states of america, authorized title 10, section 8742, united states code, awards air force cross colonel robert m. white, extraordinary heroism in military operations against opposing armed force f-105 mission commander near hanoi, north vietnam, on 11 august 1967. on date, colonel white led entire combat force against key railroad , highway bridge in vicinity of hanoi. in spite of 14 surface-to-air missile launches, mig interceptor attacks, , intense antiaircraft artillery fire, gallantly led attack. being first aircraft dive through dark clouds of bursting flak, colonel white set example inspired remaining attacking force destroy bridge without single aircraft being lost hostile gunners. through extraordinary heroism, superb airmanship, , aggressiveness in face of hostile forces, colonel white reflected highest credit upon himself , united states air force.

deep sea mining relatively new mineral retrieval process takes place on ocean floor. ocean mining sites around large areas of polymetallic nodules or active , extinct hydrothermal vents @ 1,400 – 3,700 meters below ocean s surface. vents create sulfide deposits, contain precious metals such silver, gold, copper, manganese, cobalt, , zinc. deposits mined using either hydraulic pumps or bucket systems take ore surface processed. mining operations, deep sea mining raises questions environmental damages surrounding areas because deep sea mining relatively new field, complete consequences of full-scale mining operations unknown. however, experts removal of parts of sea floor result in disturbances benthic layer, increased toxicity of water column, , sediment plumes tailings. removing parts of sea floor disturbs habitat of benthic organisms, possibly, depending on type of mining , location, causing permanent disturbances. aside direct impact of mining area, leakage, spills, , corrosion alter...
