in 1903, consuelo purchased admiralty , commissioned hms investigator. in 1904 after refitting survey vessel, @ cost of £20,000, renamed hms sealark , sailed portsmouth in september 1904 serve on china station. in 1910, sailed penang australia station. undertook various hydrographic surveys around australia , south pacific between 1910 , 1914. beginning of world war i, , threat of german empire expansion in south pacific, sailed suva, fiji cargo of coastal guns, gun emplacement on hill in suva.


after returning fiji via new zealand sydney, paid off in 1914. in 1919, australian shipowner captain j. h. patrick purchased £2500, converted merchant ship @ cost of £15,000, renaming sealark iii, , norwest. plied interstate trade james patrick steamships ltd until 1924, when english, scottish , australian bank seized repay debts owed. after james patrick steamships ltd failed, bank sold william waugh ltd., balmain, sydney £500. william waugh dismantled , converted hulk.
