cincinnati reds

coffey drafted cincinnati reds in 41st round of 1998 major league baseball draft out of chase high school in forest city, north carolina. draft-and-follow prospect, coffey signed reds $1,000 signing bonus , $850 monthly salary.


coffey missed 2000 season because of elbow injury , remained in reds minor league system through 2005. made major league debut on april 19, 2005, pitching 2 innings , giving 2 runs against chicago cubs. picked first win in 2 inning relief appearance against san diego padres on may 10, 2005 , first save against pittsburgh pirates on august 28, 2005. overall, spent 4 years reds , pitched in 213 games, 12-9 record , 4.62 era , 9 saves, 8 of recorded in 2006.

on september 9, 2008, coffey designated assignment reds , claimed milwaukee brewers on september 12.


on april 22, 2009, coffey made appearance closer brewers; held role until trevor hoffman returned injury. picked 2 saves in role, while suffering 2 blown saves. remained brewers through 2010 , 2-4 4.76 era in 69 games.


on december 2, 2010, brewers announced team not offer him arbitration , became free agent.


washington nationals

coffey pitching nationals in 2011.


coffey signed washington nationals on january 24, 2011. finished year 3.62 era , 5-1 record in 69 games before again becoming free agent.


los angeles dodgers

on february 3, 2012, coffey signed one-year, $1 million contract los angeles dodgers contained 2013 club option worth $2.5 million. coffey pitched in 23 games dodgers, era of 4.66. however, on july 2, coffey injured shoulder while pitching against cincinnati reds. on july 3, announced coffey undergo tommy john surgery second time of career , miss rest of 2012 season. dodgers declined 2013 option on october 29, 2012.


seattle mariners

on may 20, 2014, coffey signed minor league deal seattle mariners. coffey passed physical on may 22, making deal official. served closer mariners triple-a team tacoma rainiers remainder of season, , released on 4 september.


atlanta braves

on february 11, 2015, coffey signed minor league contract atlanta braves.


diablos rojos del mexico

he spent part of 2015 pitching diablos rojos del mexico in mexican league.


long island ducks

on april 8, 2016, coffey signed long island ducks of atlantic league of professional baseball. became free agent after 2016 season.
