at age of 16, started working assistant theatre producer kermit bloomgarden. later, worked producers robert whitehead , emanuel azenberg. in lieu of attending college, rudin took job casting director , ended starting own company. newly minted firm cast numerous broadway shows, including annie (1977) mike nichols. cast pbs s verna: uso girl (1978), starring sissy spacek , william hurt; , mini-series scarlet letter (1979) starring meg foster, kevin conway , john heard; also, films king of gypsies (1978), wanderers (1979), simon (1980) alan arkin , resurrection (1980).

in 1980, rudin moved los angeles, taking employment @ edgar j. scherick associates, served producer on variety of films including m dancing fast can (1981), nbc miniseries little gloria... happy @ last (1982) , oscar-winning documentary makes me feel dancin (1983).

rudin co-produced unsuccessful staging of david henry hwang s face value stuart ostrow , jujamcyn theaters. started deal jujamcyn develop , produce new plays theater chain. in 1994, rudin won best musical tony award production of stephen sondheim , james lapine s passion. following year, he, along others, produced kathleen turner s broadway comeback, indiscretions, , ralph fiennes new york theatre debut in hamlet. in 1996, rudin produced revival of stephen sondheim , larry gelbart musical funny thing happened on way forum, starred nathan lane, ernie sabella , mark linn-baker.

he produced goat or sylvia?, 7 guitars, ride down mt. morgan, copenhagen, deuce, s afraid of virginia woolf?, history boys, beckett/albee, closer, blue room, , doubt. in 2010, co-produced, along carole shorenstein hays, broadway revival of august wilson s pulitzer prize-winning play fences, starring denzel washington , viola davis, garnered ten tony award nominations , 3 wins, including best revival of play.

he has won fifteen tonys , twelve drama desk awards productions.

rudin lead producer broadway musical book of mormon, opened in march 2011 @ eugene o neill theatre , won 9 tony awards including best musical, , grammy award best musical album.

in 2015, announced rudin produce groundhog day, musical adaptation of film groundhog day, starring bill murray. tim minchin, penned award-winning adaptation of roald dahl’s matilda musical, write music , lyrics. danny rubin, co-wrote screenplay groundhog day along harold ramis, writing story. groundhog day opened on 9 march 2017.

in 2015 rudin produced larry david s fish in dark, hit comedy took in more $13.5 million in advance sales @ box office [which] beats previous record play, $13.05 million 2013 revival of harold pinter s betrayal, rudin production.

six rudin productions received major tony nominations in 2016. nominated best play humans , king charles iii. competing against hamilton best musical shuffle along, or, making of musical sensation of 1921 , followed (with ten nominations, second after hamilton). 3 revivals nominated best revival: blackbird, crucible , view bridge. rudin lead producer on productions except king charles iii.
